The Academic Site of Velonis I. Petros

I wrote this survey for the course of E-Commerce. It took me some weeks because it is my first official paper. I couldn't upload it for a few months because one of them told us that "someone can plagiarise himself". Well it sounds crazy but I better be careful.

It is true that I could write more. But it is my first paper and I had many other projects to complete.

The World Wide Web is like the universe. Nobody can either size it or search it manually. It contains useful information but we need specific tools to retrieve these information. Every internet user knows some search engines but only the minority knows how these search engines work. The search engines utilize special applications which are called Web spiders, Web agents, Web robots, bots which gather information from every site they find.There are many types of spiders depending on the type of the search engine. Most of the search engines are general-purpose while some others provide information only for specific categories like law or biology. In the last years some spiders have been deployed for personal use so that the internet users can have their own search engine.
